Moraga-Orinda Fire District

Office of the Fire Marshal

The Office of the Fire Marshal consists of the Fire Prevention Division and includes one support staff, assistants from the Fire District’s Reserve firefighter program for exterior hazard control and vegetation management and hydrant maintenance and testing program.  The Fire Marshal is responsible for all aspects of fire prevention within the District. These areas include code enforcement (permitted occupancies and the engine company inspection program), code adoption, hazardous vegetation abatement and reduction (weed abatement), water supply, public education, fire investigation and conveying the Fire District's concerns at local, state and national code hearings and meetings.  The Fire Prevention Division interacts with the City of Orinda, the Town of Moraga, and staff from departments within Contra Costa County government.  These relationships are essential to continue the implementation of the fire prevention plan for the Moraga-Orinda Fire District. The Fire Marshal also interacts with other agencies through involvement in the California Fire Chiefs Association, Fire Prevention Officers Section as a past president and State regulation development committees.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is also responsible for overseeing the public education programs and coordination public information.  Several programs that are essential to fire prevention within the District are the Smoke Detector Installation, Community CPR and First Aid, Smoke Detector Installation Program,  Adopt-A-School programs, the bi-annual newsletter FIRE, the annual report, bi-annual Open Houses and station tours.

All of this is only possible with the continued support and energies of every member of the Moraga-Orinda Fire District.
