MOFD Fire Station Plans Approved by Orinda Planning Commission

Orinda, CA - On Tuesday, September 25, 2012, the Orinda Planning Commission approved the Moraga-Orinda Fire District's site plan and architectural design for the replacement of Fire Station 43, which is located at 20 Via Las Cruces in Orinda.  The current 60 year-old fire station does not meet seismic requirements, lacks the space needed to accommodate modern fire apparatus, and was not designed to accommodate a multi-gender workforce.

The Planning Commission was very complimentary and commended the Fire District on the overall fire station design.  The District worked with residents who live in the area to ensure the design complemented the neighborhood and operational requirements did not have any negative impacts.  With unanimous approval, the Planning Commission asked the District to continue to work with City staff to address minor design concerns.

The proposed, approximately 5,000 square foot, two-story fire station is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2013.

District staff is drafting a long range (13-15 year) financial plan that is designed to address unfunded liabilities, capital equipment and infrastructure needs and maintain service levels.  The District Board will review and evaluate the plan prior to deciding to approve the construction phase of the fire station replacement project.
