MOFD Receives Grant Funding to Promote Earthquake Preparedness in Lamorinda

Posted: 27-Feb-2014

The Moraga-Orinda Fire District received a $700 grant from Contra Costa County Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER- The funding will be used to support efforts to bring the Lamorinda community together for this Fall's Great ShakeOut exercise. The community preparedness/earthquake exercise is being planned for 10:16 AM on October 16th. Our goal is to have every school, office, business and home take a few seconds on 10/16 at 10:16 AM to consider what they will do when the next major earthquake hits the Bay Area. "Drop, Cover and Hold On!" is the key to minimizing injuries during a shake. For more information about this year's Great ShakeOut you can visit

The exercise planning group includes a cross section of the Lamorinda Community: Fire, Police, City Staff, School Districts, the Business Community, Lamorinda's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), K6ORI (our local Amateur radio group) and neighborhoods. An initial planning meeting will be held sometime in July.
