ORINDA- On Monday, July1, 2013, the Moraga-Orinda Fire District responded to a Second-Alarm, moderate spreading vegetation fire on a steep slope in Orinda. The fire was reported at 9:23 p.m. with no structures threatened on Lomas Cantadas and Grizzly Peak Blvd. Firefighters were able to gain the upper hand with assistance from adjoining fire agencies. An estimated 1.5 acres charred the hills of Grizzly Peak in Orinda. Firefighters controlled the fire at 10:24 p.m. Firefighters will remain on scene patrolling for hot spots. Additional firefighters will return in the morning to examine the area due to the hot dry conditions expected today.

A total of 25 apparatus with 98 personnel from MOFD, Contra Costa County Fire, CalFire, Oakland Fire, Berkeley Fire, San Ramon Valley Fire, Alameda County Fire, East Bay Regional Park Police, and CHP responded to the scene. No firefighter injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is suspicious and under investigation.
