MORAGA - Just after 11:20 AM on Friday, June 8, Moraga-Orinda Fire units were called to 15 La Salle Drive in Moraga. The first arriving fire engine found the grass hill behind the residence on fire and burning toward the ridge. The fire on the ridge was visible from Campolindo High School and was cause for some concern but no evacuations were needed.  A total of 40 Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, Contra Costa County Fire and the Cal Fire responded to the scene. The fire burned approximately five acres and was declared under control at 12:20 PM.

The fire may have been caused by someone operating a weed eater in tall, dry grass behind one of the residences. Residents are reminded not to operate power equipment in dry grass during the heat of the day. It’s safest to wait for high humidity in the early morning hours to cut grass.

No structures were damaged and there were no reported injuries.

Moraga-Orinda Fire District crews will be at the scene throughout the day to be sure the fire does not reignite.

Please remember that all parcels must be in compliance with the MOFD Exterior Hazard Control Standards by June 15, 2018.
