Structure Fire at 46 Tarry Ln in Orinda

At approximately 6:45 AM on Monday, June 23, 2014, the occupants of the residence at 46 Tarry Ln. in Orinda reported that they were awakened to the smell of smoke.  The individual who was sleeping in the downstairs looked out the back door and saw flames coming through the exterior decking. All three occupants were able to get out of the residence without injury. The Moraga-Orinda Fire District responded with five engines and one truck. Assistance at the fire scene was also received from Contra Costa County Fire who responded with an engine from neighboring Lafayette.

The first arriving MOFD engine found the two-story structure heavily involved with fire. Because the house is located in a steep, wooded canyon and entry into to the structure had to be made from on the second floor, firefighters were forced to take a defensive approach to the fire. They worked to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes and into other parts of the canyon.

Tarry Lane will be closed for the remainder of the day while fire fighters conduct overhaul and mop-up operations. A firewatch will be staffed tonight and into tomorrow to ensure that the fire does not rekindle.
