Orinda, CA – On Sunday, December 2, 2012, at approximately 9:25 a.m. the Moraga-Orinda Fire District responded to a non-injury vehicle accident on Highway 24 east of Wilder Road exit in Orinda.  While investigating the accident the MOFD fire engine was struck by a car that failed to stop due to extensive rain. This was also a non-injury accident with minor damage to both vehicles.  While the firefighters were standing off the shoulder of the highway interviewing the driver, another vehicle lost control, struck the side of the fire engine and rolled into the three firefighters and the driver of the first vehicle.  All three of the firefighters were transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek where they are in serious but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. Two of the firefighters will require surgery.  The driver that was being interviewed was also injured in the accident and was transported to John-Muir Hospital with critical injuries.
Michael Rattary, a veteran seven-year Captain, Kelly Morris, a veteran nine-year Firefighter Paramedic and Stephen Rogness, a veteran four-year Firefighter were injured in the incident.
