MOFD in Action.....

From the Chief

Welcome to the Moraga-Orinda Fire District and our new website. We hope that the citizens of our community and visitors will find the information contained on this web site an interesting and useful resource.

The Moraga-Orinda Fire District was formed on July 1, 1997, when over 80% of the voters of Moraga and Orinda established a single, comprehensive Fire District. The District is governed by a five member board of directors, elected by the residents and serves the Town of Moraga, City of Orinda, Canyon and unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County. The District is approximately 63 square miles and has a population of approximately 42,000. There are five fire stations strategically located throughout the District, providing services for all emergencies including residential, wildland and commercial fires; medical emergencies; technical and trench rescues; and other hazardous conditions.

First Responder Paramedics on each of the District's five engine companies provide advanced life support. This high level of patient care is continued to the hospital by the Fire District's two paramedic transport ambulances.

The staff of the Fire District includes 72 employees, 15 reserve firefighters, and 10 volunteer reserve communications personnel. The District has an operating budget of approximately $18 million, providing emergency operations, fire prevention and public education, support services, personnel and finance.

The Moraga-Orinda Fire District Board of Directors meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 1280 Moraga Way at 7:00 p.m. The current agenda for these meetings can be found on the website by going to the Board of Directors area.
