Issued: June 30, 2026

The City of Orinda and the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District (MOFD) are informing residents that prescribed fire operations are planned at Orinda Oaks Park as part of ongoing wildfire risk reduction efforts. MOFD crews will conduct a prescribed burn to establish and maintain a strategic fuel break along Donald Drive. This fuel break is an important wildfire mitigation tool that helps improve evacuation routes, provide safer working conditions for firefighters during wildfire incidents, and support the long-term health of native grassland ecosystems.

Burning will take place during the cooler morning hours, with crews treating vegetation approximately 100 feet downslope from the roadway. Daily operations are expected to conclude by 1:00 PM.

MOFD is coordinating closely with the City of Orinda and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the project is conducted safely while minimizing impacts to the surrounding community.

Residents near Orinda Oaks Park, especially those along Donald Drive, may see smoke and fire activity during operations. Residents are encouraged to keep windows and doors closed while burning is underway. Motorists traveling on Moraga Way may also notice smoke in the area.

If weather or fuel conditions become unfavorable, the prescribed burn will be postponed.

Project updates and additional information will be posted on MOFD’s Facebook page and the City of Orinda's social media channels.
