The Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District (MOFD) plans to conduct a prescribed fire this afternoon at Mulholland Ridge Open Space in Moraga. You can watch the prescribed fire operations live beginning at 1:00 p.m. at: https://ops.alertcalifornia.org/cam-console/2207.

MOFD has been waiting for suitable weather conditions to continue fuel break burning along Mulholland Ridge. Crews evaluated conditions this morning, and this afternoon's forecast indicates favorable, fog-free conditions for the project. Fire crews are scheduled to treat approximately 1.5 acres east of the Mulholland Reservoir as part of ongoing wildfire risk reduction efforts. The project includes establishing and maintaining a strategic fuel break along the ridge-top trail. Fuel breaks are an important wildfire mitigation tool that improve evacuation routes, provide safer working conditions for firefighters during wildfire incidents, and support the long-term health of native grassland ecosystems.

Burning will take place during the afternoon hours, with crews treating an area approximately 100 feet wide adjacent to the ridge-top trail. Operations are expected to conclude by 4:00 p.m.

MOFD is coordinating closely with the Town of Moraga, the City of Orinda, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the project is conducted safely while minimizing impacts on the surrounding community. Residents near Mulholland Ridge, including the Rheem Valley neighborhood, may see smoke and fire activity during operations. As a precaution, residents are encouraged to keep windows and doors closed while burning is underway. Motorists traveling on Moraga Road and Moraga Way may also notice smoke in the area.
