This Morning– Friday, July 17

Issued: July 17, 2026

The Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District (MOFD) plans to conduct a prescribed fire this morning at Mulholland Ridge Open Space in Moraga. You can watch the prescribed fire operations live beginning at 10:00 am. at: https://ops.alertcalifornia.org/cam-console/2207. The return of cooler weather and the marine layer sets up ideal burning indicates conditions for the project.

Fire crews are scheduled to treat approximately 1.5 acres east of the Mulholland Reservoir as part of ongoing wildfire risk reduction efforts. The project includes establishing and maintaining a strategic fuel break along the ridge-top trail.

Burning will take place during the morning hours, with crews treating an area approximately 100 feet wide adjacent to the trail. Operations are expected to conclude by 1:00 p.m.

MOFD is coordinating closely with the Town of Moraga and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the project is conducted safely while minimizing impacts on the surrounding community.

Hikers in the area and residents near Mulholland Ridge, including the Rheem Valley neighborhoods, may see smoke and fire activity during operations. As a precaution, residents are encouraged to keep windows and doors closed while burning is underway. Motorists traveling on Moraga Road may also notice smoke in the area.

If weather or fuel conditions become unfavorable, the prescribed burn will be postponed.

Project updates and additional information will be posted on MOFD’s Facebook page, and the Town of Moraga and City of Orinda's social media channels.
