Prescribed Fire
Carroll Ridge Above Rheem Valley, Moraga
Scheduled: Tuesday, July 21, 2026
Issued: July 20, 2026
The Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District (MOFD) plans to conduct a prescribed fire on Tuesday morning at Carroll Ridge in Moraga. Residents can watch the operation live beginning at approximately 10:00 a.m. here:

Fire crews will treat approximately three acres along the ridge north of Rheem Boulevard as part of MOFD's ongoing wildfire risk reduction program. The project will establish and maintain a strategic fuel break along the ridge-top fire trail. Fuel breaks are an important wildfire mitigation tool that improve evacuation routes, provide safer working conditions for firefighters during wildfire incidents, and help restore and maintain healthy native grassland ecosystems.
Burning operations will take place during the morning hours and are expected to conclude by 1:00 p.m.
MOFD is coordinating closely with the Town of Moraga and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to ensure the project is conducted safely while minimizing impacts on the surrounding community.
Residents near Carroll Ridge, including the Campolindo neighborhood, may see smoke and fire activity during operations. As a precaution, residents are encouraged to keep windows and doors closed while burning is underway. Motorists traveling on Moraga Road and Rheem Boulevard may also encounter smoke in the area.
If weather or fuel conditions become unfavorable, the prescribed burn will be postponed. Project updates and additional information will be posted on MOFD’s Facebook page, and the Town of Moraga's social media channels.
