Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District are collaborating with Ranger Staff from the East Bay Municipal Utility District to compete a prescribed fire project this week (Tuesday, June 16 through Thursday, June 18) between Bear Creek Road and Sleepy Hollow School.

 

The project is part of the maintenance program for the North Orinda Shaded Fuel Break. The burns will create a buffer between the wildland, homes in the area and Sleepy Hollow Elementary School.

 

MOFD is coordinating the burning with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Residents in the area should consider closing exterior doors and windows between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM to prevent smoke from entering their homes. Motorists and bicycles on Bear Creek Road should use caution due to the potential for limited visibility and firefighters working in the area. If burning conditions become undesirable the project will be postponed.
