FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
October 6 – 11, 2025
Issued: September 29, 2025
Fire Prevention Week commemorates the Great Chicago Fire of Oct. 8–10, 1871, which killed over 250 people and left more than 100,000 homeless. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the first National Fire Prevention Week to raise awareness about fire safety. Since then, the National Fire Protection Association has led the campaign, selecting a new theme each year to address emerging fire hazards.
This year’s theme is Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home. Help us spread the word about making smart choices when it comes to buying, charging, and recycling lithium-ion batteries – because the wrong move can lead to a fire.
Stay tuned each day next week for a new tip on how to Charge into Fire Safety!
