FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Release Date: June 12, 2026

Moraga-Orinda, Calif. — At approximately 3:45 a.m. on June 11, 2026, Moraga-Orinda Fire District crews responded to a reported vehicle fire near the eastbound Fish Ranch Road freeway entrance.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a vehicle on fire with flames extending into the adjacent vegetation. The incident occurred during Red Flag weather conditions, creating concern for rapid fire growth and increased risk to the surrounding area.

Due to the elevated fire weather conditions and potential for the fire to spread, a full alarm vegetation fire response was initiated. MOFD crews were assisted by CAL FIRE and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District personnel.

Through an aggressive and coordinated initial attack, firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire and limit the spread to approximately one-half acre of vegetation. No structures were threatened.

The cause of the vehicle fire remains under investigation.

“This incident is a reminder of how quickly a vehicle fire can extend into nearby vegetation during Red Flag conditions,” said Fire Chief Jeff Isaacs. “The quick actions of our firefighters, along with the support of our regional partners, helped prevent this incident from becoming a larger wildland fire.”

MOFD thanks CAL FIRE and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District for their assistance. This incident highlights the importance of continued regional cooperation and rapid resource deployment during elevated fire weather conditions.
