Thank you for contacting the Fire District.   Please use the online form to submit your request for a modification to comply with the fire district's abatement requirements.  If you are requesting an extension, you must submit an on-line request via our extension request form.  

1. Submitting a request for modification does not automatically mean it has been approved. 
2. Modifications are approved on a case-by-case basis. 
3. Applicants should not do any modification work without approval from the Fire Official.
4. Applicants are still required to comply with the Notice while your request is being reviewed.    
5. The review period is approximately 14-21 days, and will be reviewed in the order in which it is received.  

Compliance with the fuel mitigation requirements in Ordinance No. 23-03 (Fuel Mitigation & Exterior Hazard Ordinance) and the creation of fuel breaks in Ordinance No. 23-08 (amended Fuel Break Ordinance), shall not result in the taking of endangered, rare, or threatened plant or animal species, significant erosion, or sedimentation of surface waters.   When these conditions make it impractical to comply with the fuel mitigation requirements or the fuel break requirements in these ordinances, the person who owns, leases, or controls the Parcel or Parcels shall request that the Fire Code Official grant a modification of the requirements.

Approved modifications may include the inclusion of additional work areas, outside of the restricted areas, to achieve the same fire safety outcomes.   Examples are included in our frequently asked questions page, which can be found here:

Upon completion of required work per the approved modification, you are required to return to the MOFD website and submit a self-compliance report.   The self-compliance form is available here:
